Nowadays, many of my students asked me the question, "Is it ok to take pictures of people on the street?" My answer is "yes, it is ok to take photos of people on the street." Public is too careful about so-called "one's portrait right" because of too much repetition about it on TV media. However, when they travel in asian country they often take pictures of children and old guys faces on the street. It should originally be a moral issue but they actually care if it is illegal or not. On the other hand, I always see a lot of images broadcasted on TV that should not have any permission from the person in the video. For example, when wether forcast report the heat of the day, they usually broadcast the scene of a lot of people sweating and walking on the street. Some of their faces are recognizable. I am not going to claim on the fact. From that, I assume that it is OK to shoot pictures on the street. （At least in Japan) Here is an interesting article on Gizmodo. It is already a belief that shooting pictures on the street makes you be a terrorist in the U.S. Oh, here is more appropriate link, ha. ha.
Watch out and be ready to convince with the police even if there is no legal ground for it when you are going to travel to the country.
最 近自分の生徒がよく「道で歩いている人の写真とか撮っても大丈夫なんですか？」と訊いてくる事が多い。僕の答えは「え、いいよ道で歩いてる人の写真撮るく らい」である。みんなあまりにテレビ等のメディアで繰り返される、いわゆる「肖像権」の問題に気を使い過ぎになっている気がする。 アジアとかに旅行する と平気で道の子供の写真やじいさんの写真とか撮ってくるのに日本国内や欧米だと気にしている。 つまりこれは本来モラルの問題であるが、彼らは違法性があ るかどうかを気にしているのだ。 しかしテレビ等でさんざんそういう話は出ているくせに、天気予報の番組内で今日の暑さを語る際によく街を汗をふきふき歩 いている人たちの映像にかぶせたりしている。 顔がわかるようなアップも多い。 沢山の人が写っているし、許可など取っているとも思えない。 僕はこれを 問題にしたいのではなく、ここから見ても道で写真を撮るくらい別にいいのだと推測している。 結局は写った人が何かで目にしてクレームでもつけない限り （そこまで有名な写真にでもならない限り）何も問題は無い。 ギズモード・ジャパンに興味深い記事があった。肖像権に限らず道で写真を撮る事を禁じる法的根拠はなくても、アメリカでは警察や警備の認識として公共の場所で写真を撮る事はテロにつながると考えられているらしい。 旅行の際は覚悟を決めて応対を準備して行こう。 おまけでもう一つよりストレートなリンク（笑）
